2010 to be drier, after very wet 2009[From ABCNews]
Tasmania has just recorded one of its wettest years on record.
Meteorologist, Matt Pearce, says 2010 will be drier than usual, especially in the earlier months.
But he says 2009 was a very wet year, with Hobart's total of 862 millimetres making it the city's wettest since 1958.
"We have had quite consistent rainfall right throughout the year, with almost all months - with the exception of January - coming in at least average.
"The weather systems that brought rainfall to Hobart were similar right across the state. They brought fairly widespread rain," he said.
Mr Pearce says Hobart's rainfall total was more than 200 millimetres above the annual average.
"The long-term annual average is 615 millimetres. Most of our rain did fall during the winter and early spring months, where we had a couple of fairly major low pressure systems." |
